An art troupe from Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province debuted their cultural show in San Felipe, Chile on Jan 12.

Nearly 30 performers from an orchestra, acrobatic company and art school in Hangzhou presented a festive show with Chinese music, dance, magic, and acrobatics to celebrate the approaching Chinese New Year with more than 2,000 Chilean attendants.

In addition to performances featuring Chinese traditional culture, the troupe also recomposed local folk songs to show the performers' greetings and respect to the South American country.

Among the audience was 74-year-old Chilean singer Juan Carlos Alyardo. He highly appreciated the performances from China and gave his thumbs-up to the troupe for its dedication to cultural exchanges.

Patricio Freire, mayor of the host city San Felipe, was impressed by the distinctive presentations of music and dance, and sent local handicrafts as gifts for the art troupe.

Xu Bu, China's ambassador to the South American country, remarked that though China and Chile are far apart geographically, ties between the two nations are every close. He hailed the performers from Hangzhou as envoys who bring China's sincere regards to the other side of the planet.

Following the first show, the Hangzhou troupe is embarking on a performance tour in Chile, as part of the 2019 "Happy Chinese New Year" celebrations which are organized by China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism every year.
