Zhejiang's first 5G open laboratory opens in Hangzhou

The first 5G open laboratory of Zhejiang province and the China Mobile 5G Innovation Center opened in Binjiang district of Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province on May 17.

A group of hi-tech enterprises and research institutions including Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology, Nokia and Beihang research institution announced plans to set up operations in the center, which features intelligent healthcare, agriculture, and education.

The 5G open laboratory provides enterprises with a real 5G network environment.

Companies are allowed to conduct 5G product tests using the 5G network and the integrated equipment of the laboratory ahead of 5G's commercial release, said an official from China Mobile Hangzhou.

He added that the laboratory is able to verify products in the areas of education, medical care, and industry.

The development of internet of vehicles technology, big data, cloud computing and 5G is revolutionizing the bus industry.

5G intelligent buses are currently undergoing final tests and are expected to be officially launched soon, said Hu Hongxing, chief engineer at Geely Automobile Research Institute.
