The 3rd Hangzhou International Youth Swimming Championship opened in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, on June 29.

Open to young swimmers aged from 10 to 16, the five-day competition was attended by 300 athletes from home and abroad, including the United States, Canada, Singapore, and Australia this year, setting a new record.

As the home of Chinese Olympic swimming champions Sun Yang and Luo Xuejuan, Hangzhou is known as a city of swimmers.

Zhang Yadong, deputy director of Sports Bureau of Zhejiang Province, said he hopes the international youth swimming championship can be developed into a flagship swimming event in Zhejiang and attract more young talented swimmers from across the world.

"The new indoor swimming pool, which was invested heavily by Zhejiang University, will be put into use in September and will be used to host various domestic and international competitions and talent cultivation programs," said an official from the university.

Hangzhou was the host of the 14th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in 2018.
