An exhibition featuring Japanese Ukiyoe paintings was unveiled in Zhejiang Sali Art Gallery in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province on Aug 3.

As the largest Ukiyoe exhibition in China by far, it features over 330 original Japanese Ukiyoe works from 11 esteemed artists.

Ukiyoe, interpreted as "pictures of the floating world", is a genre of Japanese folk art which flourished from the 17th through 19th centuries. Artists produced woodblock prints and paintings depicting landscapes, historic figures, and folk tales.

Running until Oct 6, the exhibition is expected to help more people learn about the aesthetic and cultural values of Ukiyoe and improve the artistic skills of Chinese modern woodblock paintings.
