The 2019 China Annual Conference on Urbanology and the 9th High-level Forum on Urbanology took place in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, on Nov 10.

Themed "High-quality development, high-quality life, and high-quality governance," the event brought together a number of scholars, urbanologists, officials, and media representatives to discuss improving city governance.

Since 2011, the Hangzhou International Urbanology Research Center has hosted the event to strengthen research on city governance.

At the annual event, the Qian Xuesen Urbanology Golden Award and the West Lake Urbanology Golden Award are given to participants for their innovative ideas about city governance.

This year's award-winning proposals focused on issues such as urban traffic, education, healthcare, and environmental preservation.

Over the past nine years, a number of suggestions on Hangzhou's governance have been adopted as official policies.

A plan to build "city libraries" was also announced at the conference. The Hangzhou International Urbanology Research Center is set to cooperate with Chinese cities to build libraries to record the history and experience of the development of cities.

The event also saw the unveiling of a training center on urbanology for officials.
