The Hangzhou Municipal Health Commission signed a cooperation deal with Westlake University at the university's Yunqi campus on Dec 11.

Sun Yongrong, director of the Hangzhou Municipal Health Commission, and Shi Yigong, president of Westlake University, acted as the signatories.

Both sides agreed to make use of their respective strengths to carry out basic medical research and build platforms for academic exchange.

Both sides will also work together to train medical professionals and facilitate international medical exchange.

A representative said that Hangzhou has a wealth of medical resources, and several health indicators for local residents have reached the standards of developed countries.

The partnership will be helpful for promoting basic research at Hangzhou hospitals and enhancing the overall medical capacity of the city.

Shi said that Westlake University has a pledge to serve society and the public, and the university regards life sciences as a development priority.

In 2015, Shi Yigong and six other scholars helped found Westlake University, which focuses on basic research in natural and medical sciences and technology.
