Hangzhou recognizes winners of WorldSkills Competition

Two people from Hangzhou who shined in the 45th WorldSkills Competition were recognized at a ceremony in Hangzhou on Jan 15.

The two winners, Shi Dan and Hu Bin, were recognized with a gold medal in the hairdressing category and an excellence award in the car painting category, respectively, during the 45th WorldSkills Competition held in Kazan, Russia, in August 2019.

At the award ceremony, Shi Dan, who graduated from the Hangzhou Gongshu Vocational High School, received a cash award of 500,000 yuan ($72,777).

The team who coached her also received 500,000 yuan, and the Hangzhou Gongshu Vocational High School received 1 million yuan in subsidies. 

The other winner from Hangzhou, Hu Bin, was honored with a cash award of 150,000 yuan, and his coaching team received the same amount. His school, Hangzhou Technical College, received 300,000 yuan in subsidies. A number of other skilled technical workers were also honored at the ceremony.

Hangzhou has long attached importance to attracting and training skilled technical workers, and there are currently 1.68 million skilled technical workers in the city, 516,000 of whom are considered "high-caliber".

The city has also established more than 300 workshops for skilled professionals, 50 of which are at the national or provincial level.

In addition, in 2019, Hangzhou launched a series of policies to help nurture skilled technical workers, offering them 120 million yuan in subsidies.
