Covering an area of 4,427 square kilometers, Chun'an is the largest county in Zhejiang province with 23 towns under its administration and a registered household population of 458,669 as of 2019.

As the least developed county in Hangzhou and one of 26 underdeveloped areas in Zhejiang province, Chun'an largely relies on the tourism industry to boost its economy. Statistics show that Chun'an had a GDP of 25.45 billion yuan ($3.75 billion) in 2019, a year-on-year increase of 4.6 percent, of which 23.19 billion yuan came from tourism. The county received 18.8 million tourists from home and abroad that year. The picturesque Qiandao Lake, or Thousand Islets Lake, is located in Chun'an.
