Hangzhou, a leader among domestic cities in developing artificial intelligence (AI), is calling for more AI-powered practical solutions in a number of areas.

According to the news release published by Hangzhou on Sept 22, the city is in need of AI-powered solutions in areas such as healthcare, urban management, education, Asian Games, future community, traffic, and culture.

For example, Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital is in need of an auxiliary diagnosis and treatment platform facilitated by AI for pathology analysis which, once completed, would be able to elevate the overall medical capabilities of provincial, municipal and county-level hospitals.

The proposal will remain open until Oct 30, and successful solutions will be awarded financial support of up to 20 percent of the total investment, with a maximum of 10 million yuan ($1.47 million).

Hangzhou is spearheading AI development and within the next five years aims to become a national leader in innovating core technology, realizing intelligent transformation in key industries, and digitalizing urban governance.

Statistics show that from January to July, Hangzhou generated 77.88 billion yuan and produced profits of 11.15 billion yuan in the AI sector, year-on-year increases of 9.9 and 20.69 percent, respectively.
