A robot called Xiao Qing has been employed by Qingbo subdistrict in Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province as a community worker, local media reported on Sept 1.

It is the first artificial intelligence system in Hangzhou to be used for community governance.

Xiao Qing provides consultation about various policies, as well as collects suggestions and ideas from local residents. It is also in charge of answering phones from local residents and giving them a call.

During Xiao Qing's calls, the system will make written and audio records about it and then analyze the data to produce the required results in response to the caller's needs.

Ding'an Community is an open residential community in the downtown area. Neighboring West Lake scenic area, farmer's markets, department stores, and kindergartens, Ding'an Community has a large flow of people. As a result, it is hard to manage the community.

"We collected information about local residents and their requirements by Xiao Qing," said an official from Qingbo subdistrict. "Then we made some improvements based on these requirements, including the reconstruction of the water supply system and the installation of smart security facilities."

Currently, Xiao Qing has served more than 330,000 residents and helped local residents solve 87 affairs, greatly alleviating the pressure on human community workers.
