Hangzhou's new regulations on takeout food delivery will take effect on March 1.

According to the new regulations, all packages come with single-use seals that meet certain standards, local media reported on Jan 18.

The Hangzhou Administration for Market Regulation said that the use of such seals would reduce of the risk of food contamination during delivery. Ji Guoqiang, a staff member of the administration, said that the commonly used tapes and staples will no longer be acceptable when the new regulations take effect.

The new regulations also state that a courier can decline a delivery order if the package is not intact or if the seal is broken. Customers can also decline accepting food that is not sealed appropriately.

According to the administration, over 19,000 takeout providers have agreed to use standardized seals. The remaining, which accounts for one-third of the total, have been warned to do so by the end of February or face fines.

A closed-loop management system to ensure Zhejiang's food safety, which tracks food products from the farm or factory to the store shelf, was put into operation in March 2021.

Comprehensive information about food products can be accessed by simply scanning a QR code on the packaging.
