Tungamirai Eric Mupona, an overseas student from Zimbabwe studying in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang, said he is looking forward to working as a volunteer for the upcoming 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022, which will take place in September, local media reported on Jan 27.

"Hangzhou is becoming better and better and I want to show the charming city to more people," said Mupona, who passed his interview to be a Games volunteer on Jan 26.

Mupona first arrived in Hangzhou in 2017 and found it difficult to fit into the new environment. As such, he decided to participate in volunteer activities to meet new people. He has since been involved in activities such as maintaining traffic order at the Xihu Lake scenic area, assisting passengers at the railway station, and teaching senior Hangzhou residents English.

Mupona has also established an international volunteer service platform to help more overseas students adapt to their lives in China. The online platform currently has volunteers from nearly 100 countries.
