Just over a year after joining Geely Commercial Vehicles Group in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, Levent Atkay, a Turkish engineer who has been in the automobile industry for over 20 years, said that since his name sounds similar to the local Wentao Road, he must have been destined to live in Hangzhou.

"I love my name, and my colleagues here address each other with a brother or sister title, just like the tradition in my Turkish family to show respect," Atkay said.

Now responsible for Geely's cab structure design for commercial new energy vehicles, Atkay said it was fun to use computational methods to simulate the crashes of EVs, as it saves money and he can obtain detailed information and gain more time for reaching the optimal safety standards.

"EVs are powered by battery, so if the battery was hit, there may be leakage, short circuit or even explosion or other accidents," Atkay said. "My job is to simulate the crash under various circumstances so as to debug the back structure of the car and achieve safe driving."
