Xiaoshan athletes help China claim AVC Cup

Team China beat Team Japan 25-20, 25-23, 25-22 in the 2022 AVC (Asian Volleyball Confederation) Cup final in Nakhom Pathom, Thailand on Aug 14.

This was China's second triumph in the biennial tournament that was founded in 2008. China's first championship win was 10 years ago.

Li Yongzhen and Wangbin from Xiaoshan district, Hangzhou were among the players who took part in the final.

Li was born in 1998 and had entered the Xiaoshan district sports academy in 2012. He is the starting middle blocker in the national team.

Wang was born in 2001 and had also entered the district sports academy in 2012. He is the youngest player and a substitute outside hitter in the national team.

The two players will be training with the national team in Serbia for the upcoming FIVB Men's World Championship.

The duo are also expected to feature in the Asian Games, which is scheduled to take place from Sept 23 to Oct 8, 2023.
