The Kuahuqiao culture site, from which this early Neolithic culture got its name, is located in the Xiaoshan District’s Xianghu Village. A dugout canoe and lacquer artifacts that were excavated from the site are believed to be the oldest in existence. Their discovery provided concrete evidence that Hangzhou’s civilization has existed for over 8,000 years.
