The natural landscape of West Lake sets the stage for this spectacular show that uses the city’s hills and waters as its backdrop. The performance venue is Yue Lake, a section of West Lake. Based on classical Hangzhou folklore and mythology, Impression West Lake integrates representative elements of West Lake’s cultural history by using the natural landscape, lighting, music, and performance. Created by the renowned Chinese film director Zhang Yimou and the Japanese composer Kitaro, the show premiered in 2007. It is continually updated and remains a highly sought-after experience.
