Hangzhou receives over 17m tourists over National Day holiday

Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, witnessed a tourism boom during the seven-day National Day holiday from Oct 1 to 7, dubbed "Golden Week" in China.

The city received 17.76 million domestic and foreign tourists, up 8.89 percent year-on-year, generating total revenues of 15.17 billion yuan ($2.21 billion), a year-on-year increase of 11.26 percent, according to the Hangzhou Holiday Office.

The West Lake scenic area, visited by 4.32 million people over the week-long holiday, was the most popular tourist destination in Hangzhou.

Tourists from the United States, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Taiwan and South Korea were the main visitors apart from those from the mainland. The number of visitors from Hong Kong in particular witnessed a significant increase, up 31.2 percent compared with that of last year.

Meanwhile, characteristic rural villages especially those in Fuyang district, were also favored by visitors with 1.32 million tourists, followed by Tonglu county, Chun'an county, Jiande town and Lin'an district.
