Nine stone carving artists are set to show off their arts and crafts skills with their representative selection of stone artworks at a cultural exhibition in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, from Oct 18 to 22.

The exhibition, organized by Hangzhou Cultural and Creative Industry Office and Hangzhou Daily Press Group, will provide visitors with an overview of the culture and history of various stone carvings, and an insight into the carving skills and artistic imagination of the artists.

Zhou Jinfu, a national-level craft art master of stone carving, will bring one of his fine pieces of Qingtian stone carving, which is listed in the first batch of China's intangible cultural heritages. The majority of his works are creative, reflecting his observations of life.

"The art of engraving takes not only a mastering of knife techniques, but also an embodiment of personal thinking towards life", said Zhou.

Another Zhejiang-based masterful artisan is Chen Xiaofu, an inheritor of Qingtian stone carving who has devoted himself to the craft for years and developed his own characteristics and styles. The majority of their works have traditional themes which fit Chinese aesthetics such as landscapes, flowers, and human figures.

Having originated from Qingtian county in southern Zhejiang province, Qingtian stone carvings are renowned worldwide for their unique texture and beautiful colors.
