Hangzhou recently unveiled its first demonstration street for waste sorting, according to a local news release.

The demonstration area, located on Wener Road, stretches from Mogan Road to Wuchanggang Road, a total length of more than 10 kilometers.

The street is lined with a number of shops, office buildings, residential communities and institutes, providing sufficient samples to showcase how different kinds of waste should be classified.

Each shop along the street is equipped with the same trash cans for waste sorting. When customers are dining at a restaurant, they are required to put their used napkins into a specified trash can while leaving food waste on the table.

Waiters will clear the food waste and put it into the trash can specifically reserved for perishable waste, said a restaurant owner.

Every morning and evening, workers will come to the street to sort away the waste generated by shops and provide guidance to the shop owners.

Each shop on the street needs to have their performance assessed every week. The results will be put on a bulletin board in front of the shops.
