Around 190 million packages are expected to flood into Hangzhou after the Singles Day shopping festival, representing a year-on-year increase of 15 percent, according to the latest estimates by the Hangzhou Municipal Postal Administration.
Officials said that Hangzhou would need to process nearly 20 million packages per day for the 10 days following Nov 11, almost twice as much as in the past.
Hangzhou government officials claim that the city is fully prepared for the upcoming challenge.
Up to 85,000 delivery men will be delivering packages during this time, and 300,000 square meters of area for sorting packages has been added.
In addition, advanced technology to speed up the sorting of packages has been implemented throughout the city, and a number of delivery firms are using robots to improve efficiency and accuracy.
