Xiacheng district, Hangzhou announced 10 new measures and 10 new demonstration projects to boost its nighttime economy at a ceremony held in the district on Jan 19. 

The nighttime economy, which was repeatedly mentioned during the third session of the 12th Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the third session of the 13th Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress, both of which recently concluded, has become key to the district's future success, according to one of the district's top officials.

He went on to say that Xiacheng has a solid foundation for developing the nighttime economy, referring to the fact that the total value of consumer retail sales in the district was among the highest in the province in 2019.

To boost its nighttime economy, Xiacheng plans to establish a leading team of officials specializing in the management of the nighttime economy.

It also plans to set up a special fund to recognize areas that succeed in developing their nighttime economies. The fund will offer a total of 10 million yuan ($1.46 million). 

In addition, the district will work to improve the appearance of streets and other infrastructure in its main business area. It will also build a number of commercial streets specifically for the nighttime economy by introducing more businesses offering nighttime activities and encouraging shops to extend their operation hours and offer discounts at night. It will also extend subway and bus hours.
