Hangzhou East Railway Station, which is located on the east end of Tiancheng Road, has upgraded its taxi pick-up point to offer a better experience for travellers, local media reported on June 10.

"It is much better," said a businessman surnamed Liu, who makes business trips to Hangzhou every month. "Upon arrival, there will be electronic billboards showing which pick-up point is the least busy, which could save travellers a lot of time."

It took Hangzhou East Railway Station seven months to fully upgrade its six taxi pick-up points. The total area has been significantly expanded and now accommodates 48 taxis at once.

The air conditioning has also been improved. The waiting area and pick-up area are separated with tempered glass, which not only keeps the waiting area cool but also spares travellers from taxi exhaust.

Hangzhou highly values the development of digital technology, even in the dispatch of taxis. A WeChat mini program was launched to show useful information such as how many travelers are waiting and how many drivers are in position. It even suggests which pick-up point to choose.

"In the past, I didn't know where to enter the station. Sometimes I would waste an entire hour waiting. The upgrades really help," said Wang Ling, a taxi driver who has been driving in and out of Hangzhou East Railway Station for 25 years.
