Alibaba Sports has opened its first smart gym in the Dinglan Culture and Sports Center in Jianggan district, Hangzhou. It features an unmanned check-in system and the ability to rent venues with credit, local media reported on July 6.

Visitors can use Alibaba's financial service platform Alipay app to make reservations, pay, sign up for local tournaments and random match-ups, and accumulate points for more added services.

According to local authorities, the sports center covers an area of 14,000 square meters and consists of an in-door gym that meets international standards, a 2,400-square-meter weight-lifting area, football fields, and track-and-field grounds.

"Our facilities will give locals more recreational and fitness options," said a spokesperson for Alibaba Sports.

The Hangzhou branch of the gym is the first of its kind in China. Similar facilities will soon be established in Jiangsu, Sichuan, and Shanghai.

To celebrate the grand opening of the gym, people will be able to enter free of charge from 10:00 to 14:00 every work day. On the eighth day of every month, all venues will be open to locals for free.

There will also be special discounts for the elderly and the disabled as Hangzhou is dedicated to creating a barrier-free environment for people with disabilities and other people in need ahead of the Asian Para Games.
