Hangzhou in East China's Zhejiang province is set to award specialists in different trades across the city with honorary titles for their outstanding professional skills and consistent pursuit of craftsmanship, local media outlets reported on July 23.

The awards ceremony has taken place every year since 2016, in which winners were honored as "Hangzhou Craftsman." Nominees were assessed with criteria including professional expertise, technological innovation, team leadership or feats in traditional crafts, as well as previous honors.

This year, the 316 applicants came from all walks of life, including manufacturing, service, medicine and healthcare, education, as well as agricultural planting. Among these applicants, the youngest is 21 years old and the oldest is 77. There were 262 male and 54 female applicants.

There are also judges, prosecutors, notaries, and members of other fields that had not previously been involved. Among them, there are champions of world skills competition, inheritors of national intangible cultural heritage, and national technical experts.

In order to meet the development goals of Hangzhou, city brain construction and social governance have been added to the scope of the fourth assessment.

The assessment group is composed of well-known industry experts, former winners, and social organizations.

The final list will be released around this year's "September 26 Craftsman Day." Winners will be awarded 50,000 yuan ($7140.60) and nominees will also receive 5,000 yuan.
