Kazunori Takamura is an online celebrity from Japan who is active on the short video sharing platform Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok. Fluent in mandarin Chinese and Hangzhou dialect and rich in body language, with his every word and sentence steeped in humor, Takamura has rapidly gained popularity among Chinese netizens.

But 10 years ago, when Takamura first traveled across the sea to Hangzhou, he originally planned to stay there for two years to sharpen his Chinese language skills.

Though he could not speak a word of Chinese at that time, the outgoing man overcame his initial feeling that he was in a strange place and now has totally fallen in love with the city. He loves Hangzhou cuisine and has married a Hangzhou girl and become Hangzhou's son-in-law.

Takamura wants to show Japanese people the real side of China. Here's his story.

Starting on June 17, a brand new bilingual program entitled Hangzhou Eye will offer the world new insights into Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province.
