Hangzhou held a conference on Oct 15 to promote the construction of a futuristic Cloud City, local media reported.

The Cloud City is meant to become a new landmark of Hangzhou, as well as a traffic hub, talent hub, and central business area. It starts from the Belt Highway in the east and stretches all the way to Shaoxi Brook in the west. From north to south, it extends from the Hangzhou-Changsha Expressway to Yuhangtang River. It covers a total area of 58 square kilometers.

It will feature a Dream Town, AliCloud, Cainiao Express, Hupan University, Hangzhou Normal University, Westlake University, and Zhejiang University's Centrifugal Hyper-gravity and Interdisciplinary Experiment Facility and Headquarters Economy Park for Alumni Corporation.

The city, along with the surrounding Zijingang Sci-tech City, Future Sci-tech City, and Qingshan Lake Sci-tech City, will work to attract more talent and strengthen the innovative capabilities of the western part of Hangzhou.

The city hopes to offer a one-hour train commute to any location in the Yangtze River Delta region and an eight-hour train commute to Beijing as it is home to the Hangzhou West Railway Station.
