Chun'an county in Hangzhou on Nov 17 initiated a 10-year plan to protect the picturesque Qiandao Lake in a more digitalized and intelligent way, local media reported.

Eighty-nine experts from across the country have been introduced to the Qiandao Lake think tank since last year to help customize scientific payoffs and protection systems for the lake.

Zhu Guangwei, a researcher at the Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, said he has been doing research on the evolution and protection of the water environment in Qiandao Lake since 2005.

"What we can do for the lake is to gain a thorough understanding of its ecological environment. For example, what is the environmental capacity of the lake and its evolution tendencies, and hence set up a data base."

Zhu said the institute developed an intelligent warning system in 2019 to monitor water quality and water plants in lakes. The organization is also planning to build an ecosystem research center to help it understand the lake in a more scientific way.

A team led by Doctor Min Jiesheng from Yuansuan Inc in Hangzhou is working on digital simulation research for Qiandao Lake, with the aim of providing a scientific way to help realize digital governance of the lake.
