Wang Yunchao, director of the No 2 People's Hospital in Xiaoshan district, Hangzhou, was interviewed ahead of the opening of the fifth session of 13th Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress on Jan 28.

She shared her experiences fighting COVID-19, which started on Jan 24, 2020, on New Year's Eve, when flight TR188 carrying 116 passengers from Wuhan, the then novel coronavirus epicenter, landed at the Hangzhou International Airport.

"I was having a family reunion dinner and was informed that the flight from Singapore had arrived in Xiaoshan and two passengers had fevers," Wang said.

Wang and 10 colleagues quickly prepared epidemic prevention and control equipment and checked passengers one by one until 5 am the next morning.

Since then, the medical team has received over 100 groups of passengers flying from overseas, once receiving 10 groups in a single day.

Wang also recalled some touching moments that included a painting that depicted a boy wearing a mask and leaning on a medical worker in a protective suit. Behind the two were the Chinese flag and a line of words that reads "We are heart to heart and cheer up for China."

Wang concluded that up-to-date information and humanistic care were  most important to her daily work and called on people to maintain good health habits.
