Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, is now building more gyms in neighborhood communities, local media reported on Feb 20.
This kind of community gyms are able to offer high-quality services equal to commercial gyms, but at a lower price.
The gym in the Blue Peacock Community in Gongshu district is a good example.
Gao Jie, director of the residents' committee of the community, said that the gym was designed to serve residents living in the six nearby communities.
"Residents like to come to the gym at the evening, and more than 500 residents have bought a monthly card at a discount," said Gao.
Gao added that the gym has an area of 450 square meters and facilities normally seen at commercial gyms can also be found here. The monthly card only costs 30 yuan ($4.65).
Hangzhou now has 177 community gyms, with residents able to search for the nearest community gym to them on a specially-developed app.
Officials from the Hangzhou sports bureau said that about 80 community gyms will open this year.
