Zhejiang Provincial Museum

Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains by Chinese painting master Huang Gongwang (1269-1354) is regarded as one of the top 10 masterpieces in Chinese art history. In 1650, the near-seven-meter long painting was split into two pieces which are now hundreds of miles apart. Today, if you want to see the artwork, you have to either visit the Taipei Palace Museum or the Zhejiang Provincial Museum in Hangzhou.

The Zhejiang Provincial Museum is one of the most esteemed and oldest museums in China, founded in 1929.

The two branches of the museum house more than 100,000 cultural heritage items, from many different eras. In addition to the half of Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains, there are other exhibits with distinct regional features and significant academic value, such as pottery, lacquer ware, wooden ware, bone tools and ivory artifacts from the Hemudu Culture of the Neolithic era, jade ware of the Liangzhu Culture of the Neolithic era, bronzes and stoneware from the Kingdom of Yue, and paintings and calligraphic works by Zhejiang artists of the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.
