Hangzhou Qiuzhi Primary School Silk Tie-dye Experience Center

Tie-dye is the process of dyeing fabric into patterns by using a tuft (or sewing) technique. People first choose their preferred method of tying, sewing, fixing or clamping the fabric and then dye it. After removing the thread, rich layers of color and wrinkle marks are visible.

The Hangzhou Qiuzhi Primary School revived the century-old craft in 2004. It has designed silk tie-dyeing classes and encourages people from all walks of life to try their hands at the technique.

There is currently a 500-square-meter silk tie-dyeing experience center at the school capable of hosting up to 100 visitors at once. The best time to visit the center is from 8:30 am to 4 pm on workdays. Every class lasts 90 minutes and costs 50 yuan ($7.85).
