Hangzhou on April 1 held oath-taking rallies for the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium and 29 sub-venues located in districts and counties, local media outlets reported.

Over 8,000 people from all walks of life attended the rallies.

Liu Xin, vice-secretary of the CPC Hangzhou Municipal Committee and mayor of Hangzhou, took the oath and spoke about his determination to ensure the smooth running of the Asian Games.

"Let's make a commitment together: I will bear in mind my mission, live up to the trust, fulfill my duties, and contribute my wisdom and strength to a simple, safe and wonderful sports and cultural event," Liu said.

Many Hangzhou residents said they are eagerly anticipating the event.

Li Shungen, a 76-year-old senior citizen who has over 50 years of experience in wood carving, said he is crafting an artwork titled "Big Lotus", which is the nickname of Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium, to commemorate the Games.

"The Games is of great significance to everyone in Hangzhou. I hope to add luster to the event using my own hands," Li said.

Yao Bowen, an undergraduate at the Zhejiang International Studies University, has been volunteering with Games-related matters since last week.

"It is my honor to be selected as a volunteer for the Games. I hope to bring out the charm of Hangzhou," Yao said.
