How will the horses be cared for at the Tonglu Equestrian Center, which will host equestrian competitions of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022? Read on for the answer.

In March, the equine disease-free zone established in Tonglu county of Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province especially for the Games was approved by the World Organization for Animal Health and will remain valid until Dec 31.

The zone mitigates risk of disease in advance so that the horses can safely enter and return to their countries or other destinations.

Horses entering the zone must first undergo a three-month health check in their place of origin and then be quarantined in Tonglu for another 45 days.

In addition to the main competition area, which is 100 meters long and 80 meters wide, the Tonglu Equestrian Center is equipped with a 5,000-sq-m indoor training area, 4-km cross-country track, two outdoor training and warm-up areas, 240 stables, stable-boy village, horse hospital, and fodder warehouse.

The center is also equipped with an intelligent management system that can monitor real-time data on various competitions, security and fire control, passenger flow, and energy-saving scenarios.

Intelligent Equestrian, a mini program embedded within the popular Chinese social media app WeChat, was also designed for spectators to learn more about the Games and contestants to monitor their horses in real time.
