When looked at from above, blue poly-silicon photovoltaic panels glowed under the sun on the rooftop of the 220-kilovolt transformer substation in Qianjiang New City, Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, on July 20.

The substation was the first of its kind in the 220-kV category in China to be honored as a Carbon Neutrality substation, an authorized certification which means all the carbon emissions generated by the substation over the year can be offset through renewable energy trading.

The substation also consists of a charging station, data center, direct current distribution station, photovoltaic station, and energy storage station, which together shoulder the responsibility of green power transmission for the Asian Games sporting venues at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center and Asian Games Village.

It is estimated that the substation's rooftop PV panels can generate 400,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year, equal to 307 metric tons of carbon emissions.
