Hangzhou has in the first half of this year seen an impressive growth of 11.1 percent in foreign trade, reaching 359.9 billion yuan ($52.5 billion).

"However, there is also a crisis behind the growth as local enterprises cannot explore new markets overseas, overseas customers cannot visit China, and the uncertainty of orders is increasing," said an official from the local commerce bureau.

To help local enterprises stabilize orders, Hangzhou has held eight brick-and-mortar exhibitions in Japan, Indonesia, Poland, United Arab Emirates, Mexico, South Africa, Brazil and Turkey in the first half of the year. A total of 1,128 enterprises from across China participated in the exhibitions, of which 397 were from Hangzhou, and reached intention deals worth $502 million.

"As this year marks the start of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, foreign trade enterprises can enjoy tariff reductions and exemptions when exporting to Indonesia. ASEAN is the third largest export market of Hangzhou, and Indonesia, the largest and most populated ASEAN country, is of importance to Hangzhou's foreign trade growth," said the official of the commerce bureau when talking about why Indonesia was chosen as the destination of the chartered flight.

Hangzhou will also hold exhibitions in Japan, Mexico, Poland, UAB, Egypt, Turkey, Brazil, and India this year, with the total exhibition area expected to exceed 200,000 square meters.

The city will also research the travel needs of local enterprises for exhibitions overseas and arrange more chartered flights in the future.
