Edward Seng, who was born in Macao and obtained degrees in the United States, is currently managing director of KLD Thermal Equipment Corporation, the Chinese version of Clayton, a cutting-edge manufacturer which was brought in by his father to China in the 1980s.

"We set up our first plant in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, in 2003. This is the happiest city in China and boasts a friendly business environment and supportive government. It is also where I started my career," Seng said.

Based on the company's original technologies and emphasis on scientific research, KLD has soon acclimatized to Hangzhou and seen significant breakthroughs in recent years, including developing an advanced steam generator that is able to pump supercritical steam several kilometers below the sea floor and extract heavy oil that was unable to be drilled in the past.

"My father once told me that the reason he came back to the Chinese mainland and dedicated himself to industrial development is to realize technological breakthroughs and serve the country," Seng said.
