Hangzhou in East China's Zhejiang province has opened 42 new museums in rural areas and 50 in residential communities this year, local media outlets reported.

The "blooming" museums were a result of Hangzhou's efforts to achieve common prosperity in the cultural sector.

A key objective of constructing museums in rural areas and residential communities is to promote local culture, tell local stories, and develop cultural confidence.

For example, the museum in Shunan village, Qiantang district has chronicled important events in local history and showcased the distinctive local Liangzhu culture and land reclamation culture in an effort to honor local ancestors.

The paper culture museum, which is located in  Meier village, Huyuan township, Fuyang district, home of bamboo paper, not only displays the 32 major techniques and 72 processes of papermaking, but also showcases paper cutting, pulping and papermaking processes popular in the Song Dynasty (960-1279).

Memorials of historical figures were also a highlight of local museums, including the Chen Duoru Memorial Hall in Linpu town, Xiaoshan district, which is using the former residence of banker Chen Duoru to showcase his lifetime contributions to society.

Hangzhou is also ramping up efforts to create a museum map, which consists of 150 historical, cultural and natural museums, as well as ones in rural areas and residential communities.
