Qiantang district in Hangzhou city in East China's Zhejiang province has undergone a great transformation over the past decade, Jin Chengtao, Party secretary of the district, said at a news conference last Friday.

He noted that Qiantang is now one of the major manufacturing hubs in Hangzhou.

Statistics show that the total output of industrial enterprises above designated size in Qiantang increased from 145.7 billion yuan ($20.79 billion) in 2012 to 316.9 billion yuan in 2021. This rate of increase was the highest in Hangzhou.

The district is now home to five industrial clusters - semiconductors, life and health, intelligent vehicles and equipment, aerospace and new materials – and the production of automobiles in the district now accounts for more than 80 percent of Hangzhou's total. Meanwhile, the revenue of the district's biomedical industry accounts for nearly half of the city's total.

Thanks to its conducive business environment, Qiantang currently has 677 industrial enterprises and over 110,000 market entities. Statistics show that the district has spent more than 5.41 billion yuan since the start of 2022 to help businesses ease burdens and lower costs.

A total of 139 kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, as well as 22,500 government-subsidized housing units have been built in Qiantang over the past 10 years. Some 100 homecare services for the elderly have also been provided.

At present, Qiantang's resident population stands at 793,000, an increase of 61.6 percent from 10 years ago.
