A tea cultural experience activity for Taiwan youth living in Indonesia kicked off in Jakarta, Beijing and Hangzhou both online and offline on Oct 23, local media outlets reported.

The activity aimed to help Taiwan people enhance their understanding of Chinese tea culture and to promote the culture overseas.

Yu Chi-hsuan, a Taiwan person living in East China's Zhejiang province, taught the attendees about the history of Jingshan Tea, a specialty unique to Jingshan Mountain in Yuhang district, Hangzhou that has been favored by poets and literati since ancient times.

Yu also let attendees make a cup of tea on their own and paint a variety of patterns on the tea, such as smiling faces and words stating "home of Taiwan compatriots" and "serve friends with tea".

Li Qiaoxin, also known as the "Taiwan cousin" on the Chinese internet, was on site at the Hangzhou event. She said she likes to drink oolong when in Taiwan and prefers Pu'er tea and white tea in the Chinese mainland.

"I'm honored to attend the event with other Taiwan people living overseas. The art of making tea has taught me to overcome hardships and embrace life's joys," Li said.

This year's tea cultural experience activity for Taiwan youth was previously held in Japan and Thailand.
