Doctor Mohamad Sawan, a chair professor at Westlake University in Hangzhou, has many titles: fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Canadian Institute of Engineering, and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

In 2019, he traveled all the way from Canada, the Land of Maple Leaves, to Hangzhou to serve as the chief scientist at the Cutting-edge Laboratory for Biomedical Research and Innovation at Westlake University.

Over the past three years, relying on intelligent microsystem technology, Dr Sawan has made outstanding contributions to implantable and wearable intelligent medical devices. The team he led has also facilitated domestic research in the screening of brain diseases represented by epilepsy. The doctor was also granted the honorary title of "Outstanding Talent of Hangzhou".

"In the future, China will look to the world, and Westlake University will become a world-class Chinese university. I hope I can contribute to higher education, scientific research and innovation, and smart medical care of China," Dr Sawan said.

He said Hangzhou is the best Chinese city he has ever been to and he will continue to live in the city.
