Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, was honored as a pioneer in international communication, local media outlets reported.

Another four Chinese metropolises - Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou - also won the title.

Hangzhou topped the emerging Chinese cities list and also led its domestic counterparts in indicators such as culture and life, sustainable development, and economic influence.

The city ranked fifth in enterprise internationalization, as it is home to seven Fortune Global 500 enterprises, 12 Forbes Global 2,000 enterprises, and four Top 100 Chinese Multinationals, which are evaluated by the China Entrepreneur Association.

Hangzhou also performed well in running news sites and social media platforms. It has not only led in indicators such as the total amount of global attention and regional distribution, but also gained the highest attention from countries including the United States, India, Germany, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland, Italy, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Hangzhou and its 13 districts, counties and county-level cities have all opened official Facebook and Twitter accounts, with the city's official account Hangzhoufeel gaining a total of 3.19 million followers on overseas social media platforms.
