The Hangzhou Asian Games and Asian Para Games recently resumed volunteer recruitment after the much-anticipated international sporting event was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns last year.

Some 2,200 students took part in the audition at Zhejiang International Studies University on Feb 18, with roughly 1,640 students securing tickets to the next round.

An Arabian-Chinese named Melissa, who grew up in China and can speak fluent Chinese, showed her expertise in Chinese, Arabian, English and French, as well as her enthusiasm for sports, especially football, volleyball, basketball and badminton.

"As a college student, I can take this opportunity to communicate with and help others and show them my dynamism and positivity," Melissa said.

The same scene was also witnessed at Zhejiang University of Technology, which hosted a recruitment session on Feb 19, attracting 2,774 students and teachers looking to secure one of 1,200 seats.

"Hangzhou is my second home and I love it so much that I want to do everything I can for it," said Faris, a Jordanian student who has been selected as a pre-recruited volunteer for the Games.
