Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, held an event on Monday to mark the country's first National Ecology Day, which falls on Aug 15.

During the event, Hangzhou unveiled 10 low-carbon applications, which are strong examples of energy-saving and carbon reduction technologies that have shown significant results and can be widely replicated across the city.

The examples included prefabricated buildings from the Architectural Design and Research Institute of Zhejiang University and the "Green and Low-carbon Campus" application from Hangzhou Dianzi University.

Among the recognized initiatives, Lin Hao, an official from Hangzhou Dianzi University, highlighted the exemplary standards set by their sports venues, as well as the use of waste heat from nearby thermal power plants to heat water in student dormitories, resulting in a lower carbon footprint.

In addition to acknowledging the efforts of individuals and institutions in protecting Hangzhou's ecological environment, the event also launched the Green Asian Games Volunteer Service, as Hangzhou will host the upcoming Asian Games, with a view to extending green volunteer work to towns and neighborhoods by establishing teams at district and county levels.

The event also featured interactive exhibitions, including an environmental achievement display centered around the theme of "Urban Oasis," as well as an Eco-friendly Business Open Day and a market showcasing environmentally-friendly products.

Hangzhou has made continuous efforts in advancing ecological civilization. It is the first provincial capital in China to become "National Ecological City".
