Torchbearers from both the virtual and physical realms will come together to ignite the cauldron for the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou on Sept 23, as announced by organizers on Thursday.

Li Yiqing, spokesperson for the Asian Games opening and closing ceremonies operation center, expressed, "A green, digital, and intelligent Asian Games will create enduring memories for people worldwide."

Sha Xiaolan, chief director and chief producer for the opening ceremony of the Hangzhou Asian Games, highlighted, "Cutting-edge technologies such as digital fireworks, glasses-free 3D, and augmented reality will offer the audience a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Hangzhou's rich Chinese culture."

Traditionally, the opening ceremony of an international sports event serves as a prominent platform for showcasing the host country's culture. For Hangzhou, elements reflecting sweet osmanthus, the majestic Qiantang River, and the Autumn Equinox, the 16th solar term on the Chinese lunar calendar falling on the same day, will be intricately woven into the ceremony's tapestry.

Lu Chuan, chief director for the opening ceremony, remarked, "Living in Hangzhou is truly a comfortable experience. Through the opening ceremony, I aspire to introduce this enchanting city and the profound tapestry of Chinese culture to a wider global audience. We extend our warm embrace to Asia and the entire world."

According to Games organizers, the opening ceremony will witness the participation of around 50,000 individuals, with over 1,200 dedicated volunteers on hand to provide guidance and support. The event promises to set the stage for a memorable and culturally rich celebration of sports and unity.
