Hangzhou recently introduced smart parking locks near the Huanglong Sports Center in Xihu district, marking a significant upgrade in parking management.

The innovative locks automatically raise a barrier after 15 minutes of parking, requiring a QR code scan and payment in order to exit. Each parking space along Tihuan'er Road is equipped with a distinct deep-yellow smart lock.

Previously, drivers received payment notices on their windshields. Now, they are instructed to scan a QR code for payment and unlock instructions. Parking is free for the first 15 minutes, after which payment is required via WeixinPay or Alipay.

Upon scanning the QR code, users can access the "CPT Parking Lock" mini-program, displaying parking details and facilitating payment. Once payment is confirmed, the lock unlocks automatically.

The locks have been operational since Feb 1 as part of a trial phase, with nearly 180 equipped spaces. They remain flush with the ground when not in use and rise after the initial free period.

To prevent damage to low-riding vehicles, the rising part of the lock is made of rubber and retracts upon contact. Additionally, the system includes vehicle photographing capabilities for added security, with images accessible through the mini-program for driver reassurance.
