The first ecological waste transfer station in Hangzhou, located in the Gongshu district, is set to be begin operating this week.

Spanning an area of about 120 square meters, the station also features an adjacent waste classification-themed park covering an area of around 80 sq m. With its traditional Chinese architectural style of white walls and black tiles, it stands out as a visually-pleasing addition compared to conventional waste collection stations.

Equipped with state-of-the-art soundproof and sound-absorbing materials along its walls, the station boasts a silent rolling shutter door at the entrance. Inside, it integrates an air purification system with functions such as fresh air supply, deodorization, and sterilization. Additionally, automatic waste bin cleaning equipment has been installed, and wastewater is treated before being discharged. The station also incorporates an intelligent control system to monitor waste processing in real-time, ensuring full-process traceability.

Adjacent to the transfer station is a resettlement community, which was completed in 2004 without a designated waste collection point. In recent years, temporary collection points were set up in areas relatively distant from residential buildings. Noise and odor issues subsequently became concerns for nearby residents.

In support of the city's initiative to develop tranquil neighborhoods, the community revitalized the unused land by establishing the transfer station, which combines noise control, odor management, and waste reduction.
