It's an age-old tradition to eat dark rice, or wumifan (乌米饭), in Hangzhou on the first day of the Start of Summer, which will fall on May 5 this year.
The delicacy is made from glutinous rice and juice from sea bilberry leaves, an herb that gives color and flavor to the rice, functioning as a TCM that can treat mosquito bites.
