Nothing is more spiritual than the lotus. The best time to watch the lotus is between July and September, from 5 to 6 o'clock in the morning, when each lotus stands elegantly and proudly against the background of the morning glow.

Hangzhou West Lake Lotus Expo is an annual event in which more than 1,000 species of lotus are displayed, and the "West Lake Red Lotus" is Hangzhou's oldest lotus variety and is also the main species of lotus in the West Lake.

Lotus root powder is listed together with Longjing tea and silk as the top three gifts to take back home from Hangzhou. Another Hangzhou specialty is lotus root stuffed with rice, which is sticky, sweet and has the fresh scent of lotus.
