Hangzhou ranks 5th on China's top 100 cities for talent
Hangzhou's net inflow of talented individuals continued to rank fifth in China last year, according to a recent report released by Zhilian Recruitment titled "China City Talent Attraction Ranking: 2023".
The report, released yearly since 2017, surveys cross-city job search data based on an analysis of over 321 million workplace users to analyze talent mobility.
According to the Talent Attraction Index, Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen claimed the top three spots in 2022. Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Chengdu, Suzhou, Wuhan, and Wuxi also secured positions in the top 10.
The report shows that from 2018 to 2022, Hangzhou consistently maintained a positive net inflow of talent, with the proportions being 1.2 percent, 1.4 percent, 1.6 percent, 1.6 percent, and 1.3 percent respectively.
This achievement can be attributed to Hangzhou's rapid development in industries such as e-commerce and live-streaming, its livable cultural environment, and its average salary ranking fourth among key cities at 11,807 yuan ($1,657) per month.
In terms of sources, among the top ten cities where talent flowed into Hangzhou in 2022, three were from the Yangtze River Delta region, accounting for a combined proportion of 10.0 percent. Shanghai emerged as the largest source of talent for Hangzhou.
As the "capital of e-commerce," the influx of talent to Hangzhou in 2022 saw the IT/communications/electronics/internet industry accounting for 27.8 percent, significantly higher than other key cities except Shenzhen.
