The Zhejiang Provincial Museum recently kicked off its New Year exhibition Poetic and Picturesque Jiangnan (regions south of the Yangtze River) at the Gushan branch of the West Lake Gallery.

The exhibition was divided into three sections: Tracing Jiangnan, Elegance of Jiangnan, and Spirit of Jiangnan. It intricately depicts the ideal homes and spiritual worlds of literati in Jiangnan during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911), expressing the strong influence of Jiangnan's historical heritage on modern life.

The exhibition brings together 139 artifacts and sets from 10 museums in the Yangtze River Delta region, including the Zhejiang Provincial Museum, Shanghai Museum, China Silk Museum, and Suzhou Museum.

The collection spans various categories, including calligraphy and painting, ceramics, bronze ware, jade and stone artifacts, gold and silverware, textiles, stationery, and ancient books.

Among the rare treasures on display are items like a painted cloud and a phoenix lacquer round pot from the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24) and the Ink Landscape in Blue and Green created by Wen Zhengming, a renowned Chinese painter, calligrapher and poet of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

The exhibition, with immersive scenes complementing the artifacts on display, offers a vivid panorama of Jiangnan to visitors.
